UAE President Wins Prize For Humanitarian Work




The United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been awarded the inaugural Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) Global Humanitarian Personality Award, recognizing his outstanding humanitarian leadership over decades. 


Sheikh Mohamed received the honor at PAM's 18th Plenary Session held in Braga, Portugal on May 15th, 2024. He was selected as the first recipient of this prestigious award for his exemplary and ongoing contributions to global humanitarian efforts that have provided vital assistance and relief to vulnerable communities worldwide.


Under Sheikh Mohamed's vision and guidance, the UAE has been at the forefront of numerous philanthropic initiatives. This includes the recent announcement of the AED 20 billion Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative created on the 20th anniversary of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's passing. The Initiative aims to enhance sustainable development and quality of life for those in need globally through 2040.


Additionally, the UAE led the international community's COVID-19 response through the Hope Consortium, facilitating the distribution of billions of vaccine doses to countries around the globe. Domestically and regionally, over $6 billion in aid has been donated since 2015 to nations afflicted by conflicts and crises such as Syria and Yemen.  


PAM President Hon. Enaam Mayara praised Sheikh Mohamed's decades of personal dedication to humanitarian work and efforts safeguarding peace worldwide. The award recognizes his embodiment of compassion and commitment to alleviating human suffering that will inspire future leaders for years to come.
