Strengthening Ties: Indonesia and the UAE Expand Cooperation

 


In a significant move Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates have signed several Memorandums of Understanding MoUs following President Prabowo Subianto's visit to Abu Dhabi. These agreements cover a wide range of areas including tourism,  culture healthcare technology industrial development energy mineral resources and investment.



The meeting between President Prabowo and his counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed alNahyan MBZ reflects the growing partnership between the two nations. Both leaders emphasized their desire to enhance economic cooperation and increase trade flow with a goal of reaching a total trade value of $10 billion in the coming years up from $4.6 billion last year.



One of the key areas of cooperation is in the energy and mineral resources sector. The MoUs signed include knowledge sharing on policy, strategy and regulations as well as opportunities for collaboration in carbon capture and storage, biofuel development, and the mineral supply chain. This partnership aims to address both domestic and global energy challenges faced by the two countries.



The agreements also touch on specific projects such as the development of the Andaman oil and gas block gas supply to Indonesia state owned electricity company PLN, and the procurement of up to 10 gigawatts of clean energy for Indonesia industrial estates. Additionally the cooperation extends to the aluminum industry with state owned companies from both countries set to work together.



This strengthening of ties between Indonesia and the UAE builds on the close relationship that has developed over the past decade particularly during the administration of former President Joko Jokowi Widodo. The UAE has been an important partner helping Indonesia establish its first sovereign wealth fund the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), in 2021.


The signing of these MoUs reflects the commitment of both countries to deepen their strategic partnership and explore new avenues of cooperation. By leveraging their respective strengths and resources Indonesia and the UAE aim to foster economic growth ensure energy and food security and address global challenges through collaborative efforts in the years to come.
