UAE Continues Aid Efforts for Lebanon

 

The latest aid flight carrying food medical supplies blankets tents and other necessities arrived in Beirut today from the UAE. This is the 15th plane since assistance efforts began following directives from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed to support the Lebanese people. 

The supplies onboard included tons of food items to help address shortages facing many Lebanese families. Critical medical equipment and medicines were also transported to boost the capacity of overburdened hospitals. Relief workers will distribute the items to vulnerable communities hugely impacted by triple digit inflation. The tents and blankets will aid hundreds displaced due to damaged or destroyed housing in last year's port explosion.

This continued UAE aid is proving crucial with each passing month Over 4 million Lebanese citizens accounting for over 90% of the population now live below the poverty line with limited access to basic needs International donors have pledged over $11 billion in loans and aid since 2020 but reconstruction efforts are moving slowly while economic deterioration worsens.

The UAE launched an airbridge shortly after the Beirut port blast to evacuate injured citizens and bring urgent rescue gear. Dozens of flights have now ferried well over 1000 tons of assistance in partnership with Lebanese authorities and NGOs. This makes the Gulf country consistently among the top aid providers for Lebanon as political will within the government lags.
