No Restrictions on UAE Work Visas for Pakistanis

A recent meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development revealed that there are no restrictions on work visas for Pakistanis wanting to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Senator Zeeshan Khanzada, who led the meeting, confirmed that if any Pakistani faces difficulty in obtaining a work visa, their issues will be addressed by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis.

Despite this assurance, there are growing concerns about the number of Pakistanis involved in begging while on visit visas in the UAE. This situation has prompted authorities to implement stricter screening measures at airports for travelers heading to the region. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) reported that several passengers have recently been offloaded from flights to discourage this trend.

On December 23, another Senate panel meeting indicated that all Pakistani travelers to the UAE would undergo police verification. This step aims to ensure that only those with proper credentials can travel for work, as many have been misusing visit visas. Travel agents have also been instructed to follow these guidelines closely.

Overseas Employment Promoter Aisam Baig mentioned during the meeting that while work visas for the UAE are officially available, there has been a significant drop in the number of Pakistani workers traveling there. He noted that visas had been "unofficially closed," leading to a 50% decrease in travel from Pakistan to the UAE for work purposes.

The immigration sector, which is largely composed of private Overseas Employment Promoters, is vital for sending workers abroad. Bureau of Immigration Director General Muhammad Tayyab stated that the trend of skilled workers traveling to the UAE is on the rise, with a large portion working in construction and services. He emphasized that those traveling on direct visas tend to send more remittances back home.

In conclusion, while the Senate committee has confirmed the absence of restrictions on UAE work visas for Pakistanis, the situation remains complex. Stricter measures are being taken to prevent misuse of visas, and the government is working to ensure that Pakistani workers can travel safely and effectively for employment opportunities abroad.
