Saudi Arabia and UAE: Top Choices for Pakistanis Looking to Relocate

A recent survey by Ipsos highlights that Saudi Arabia and the UAE are the most popular destinations for Pakistanis wishing to move abroad. Contrary to the common belief that young Pakistanis prefer Western countries, this survey reveals a strong preference for these two Middle Eastern nations. Approximately 30% of respondents expressed interest in relocating to Saudi Arabia, while 20% chose the UAE.

Many Pakistanis are seeking to leave due to frustrations with their current economic situation. The decline in purchasing power and limited job opportunities have made life challenging for many families. These difficulties have driven a significant number of people to consider moving to countries where they believe they can find better prospects.

Interestingly, the survey also found that a large majority, about 74%, of young Pakistanis still wish to remain in their country. This indicates a commitment to their homeland despite the challenges they face. However, those in higher socio-economic classes, particularly in urban areas like Islamabad, show a greater inclination to explore opportunities abroad.

The trend of relocating is not new. In 2015, a record number of over 946,000 Pakistanis went abroad for jobs. More recently, over 800,000 Pakistanis left for work in 2022, highlighting a consistent pattern of emigration driven by economic factors. The survey results suggest that many are looking for stability and better living conditions.

The Pakistani government is aware of these trends and the potential brain drain that could harm the country's recovery. Officials are working on initiatives to create a better environment for young people to stay. These include paid internships and innovation funds aimed at retaining talent within the country.

In conclusion, while a significant number of Pakistanis are considering relocation to Saudi Arabia and the UAE, many still wish to remain in Pakistan. The government’s efforts to improve the economic situation may play a crucial role in determining whether young people choose to stay or leave in the future.
