WHO Evacuates 55 Patients from Gaza to UAE

The World Health Organization said that on January 1, 2025, a total of 55 patients had been evacuated from the Gaza Strip to the United Arab Emirates. The critical operation was supposed to let patients in need receive their special medical treatment. Besides that, there were 72 caregivers who accompanied them to give all kinds of necessary assistance during the transfer.

Among those evacuated were patients suffering from various serious health conditions, including autoimmune diseases, blood disorders, cancer, cardiovascular problems, conditions of the eye and kidney, trauma injuries, neurological disorders, and skin diseases. WHO expressed urgency for the mission because, in fact, scores of patients in Gaza suffer from various similar illnesses whose condition has worsened under ongoing conflict and shortage of health facilities.

These WHO activities come at a very relevant time when over 12,000 patients are still to be evacuated out of Gaza. Many have been affected as the violence has knocked the healthcare system in the region, among other sectors, to its knees. WHO hopes the current move will pave the way for more such evacuations to meet the overwhelming healthcare needs of the people.

Meanwhile, tensions in Gaza remain high. On the same day as the evacuation, the Israeli military said two projectiles were launched from Gaza-one of them was intercepted. Such incidents reflect the ongoing conflict and the difficulties both civilians and medical personnel face.

WHO's evacuation further indicates the urgency of medical care in Gaza and reflects the humanitarian crisis wrought by these continuing hostilities. Assistance is of essence as people have continued to suffer the consequences of this conflict.

In the final analysis, the recent evacuation of patients from Gaza to the UAE by WHO is a major step in addressing urgent needs in healthcare. As the situation remains fluid, it is critical that international organizations and governments do all that is possible to ensure collaboration in getting the much-needed medical care and support to the people affected by the conflict.
