UAE Facilitates Major Prisoner Exchange Between Russia and Ukraine

 


On February 5, 2025, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) successfully mediated a significant prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, resulting in the release of 300 individuals 150 from each side.

This recent exchange highlights the UAE's ongoing commitment to fostering dialogue and reducing tensions between the two nations. Since the beginning of 2024, the UAE has facilitated a total of 12 such exchanges, leading to the release of 2,883 prisoners.

The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the nation's dedication to finding peaceful solutions to the conflict in Ukraine. Their efforts aim to support all diplomatic initiatives and alleviate the humanitarian impact of the crisis, particularly concerning refugees and detainees.

Both Russia and Ukraine have expressed appreciation for the UAE's neutral and effective mediation role. The successful exchanges not only bring relief to the families of the released individuals but also serve as a positive step toward building trust between the conflicting parties.
