UAE field Hospital in Chad to support Sudanese refugees

The UAE continues its humanitarian efforts globally. Under the directives of the UAE President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan, Minister of State, has inaugurated an integrated field hospital in Chad to support Sudanese refugees.

The field hospital has been established in cooperation with the UAE aid and development agency, Emirates Red Crescent. It will provide critical medical assistance to thousands of Sudanese refugees who have fled ongoing conflict and turmoil in Sudan and taken refuge in eastern Chad.

The 100-bed capacity field hospital is fully equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities and supplies. It includes departments for general medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, radiology as well as a laboratory. This will allow doctors and medical staff to efficiently diagnose, treat and care for patients suffering from various illnesses and injuries. Vaccinations will also be provided to prevent outbreak of communicable diseases in the overcrowded refugee camps.

In his remarks at the inauguration, Sheikh Shakhboot thanked the Chad government for hosting Sudanese refugees and commended Emirates Red Crescent’s efforts in establishing this vital health center. He said it aims to ease the humanitarian suffering of refugees and provide urgent relief. The UAE is committed to enhancing global cooperation in addressing refugee crises and rendering sorely needed support, he added.

This new field hospital demonstrates the UAE's continuing efforts to help vulnerable communities worldwide through diverse humanitarian initiatives. Even during the pandemic, the UAE has maintained its prominent role in aiding refugees and those impacted by conflicts across Africa, Asia and other regions. The project will certainly go a long way in improving healthcare access and saving precious lives.
