The Need for More Affordable Autism Centers in the UAE
The UAE is facing a growing demand for more autism centers that provide affordable services. During a recent session of the Federal National Council FNC Dr. Maryam Al Bedwawi emphasized the urgent need for government facilities that specialize in caring for children with autism. She highlighted that many families struggle with high costs and long waiting lists at existing centers which adds to their financial and emotional stress.
Currently there are a total of 95 facilities in the UAE but only 61 of them offer comprehensive services for individuals with autism. This shortage means that many families are forced to seek private care which can be prohibitively expensive Dr. Al Bedwawi pointed out that the lack of accessible services is a significant burden on families who are often left feeling overwhelmed and unsupported.
To address these challenges Dr. Al Bedwawi called for increased government support and the establishment of more specialized centers. She noted that while the government has implemented various policies to support people with special needs there is still a gap in legislation specifically addressing autism care More dedicated resources and facilities could help alleviate the struggles faced by families and improve the quality of care available.
The need for early detection and intervention is also critical. The UAE has reported over 4500 cases of autism with a significant majority being males. Dr. Al Bedwawi stressed the importance of timely support for children showing signs of developmental delays. By increasing the number of autism centers and enhancing their services the UAE can ensure that children receive the help they need as early as possible.
In addition to care facilities the government is also working on initiatives to create job opportunities for individuals with autism once they complete their education. This includes vocational training and support systems to help them integrate into the workforce. Such efforts are essential for promoting independence and improving the quality of life for people with autism.
Addressing the need for more affordable autism centers in the UAE is crucial for supporting families and individuals affected by autism. By increasing access to specialized care and improving support systems the UAE can create a more inclusive environment that meets the needs of all its citizens. It is vital for the community and the government to collaborate in making these necessary changes.
