UAE and Cuba Strengthen Bilateral Ties
The UAE and Cuba have been fostering a growing and constructive relationship according to the UAE ambassador to Cuba, Hazza Alkaabi. This cooperative stance extends not only between the two countries but also to the wider Caribbean region.
Ambassador Alkaabi highlighted the high level visits that have taken place in the past year including the trip of Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel to the UAE in November 2023 and the visit of Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero in February 2024. These visits have helped strengthen the bilateral ties between the two nations.
Over the past year the UAE and Cuba have signed more than 10 agreements and memorandums of understanding to diversify and expand their cooperation in various fields. The ambassador praised Cuba rich culture dedication to education and health and international solidarity stating that these aspects serve as an inspiring example for all.
The cooperation programs between the UAE and Cuba are aimed at supporting crucial areas such as food sustainability and renewable energy projects This is particularly important as Cuba faces a national energy crisis The UAE has also been fostering ties with the wider Caribbean region in areas like diplomacy trade and investment.
The ambassador stressed that the UAE National Day celebrated on December 2nd not only marks the union of the seven emirates but also symbolizes the strength, unity and progress achieved by the UAE since its foundation in 1971. The diverse Cuban representation including the Deputy Foreign Minister and the president of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources attended the celebration.
The presence of the Emirati Foreign Ministry envoy for the Caribbean and Pacific States Omar Shehadeh as a guest of the Emirates further underscores the importance the UAE places on its engagement with the Caribbean region and its desire to strengthen these ties.
